Visual Poetry

So, in one of my classes (Creative Development) our first assignment was to create a piece based on a poem by e.e. cummings; ‘a wind has blown the rain away.’   The point of the class is to learn how to streamline your creative process. So I have a couple roughs for my eventual final piece. The poem is below them.

“…that last leaf whirling in the final brain of air!…”

“…The trees suddenly wait against the moon’s face.”

The whole class is interpreting this poem, it’s very interesting to see how differently people perceive the poem, just in it’s tone and what they think it means.  Here’s the poem, so you can form your own opinions.  🙂

a wind has blown the rain away
and blown the sky away and all the
leaves away, and the trees stand.
i think i have known
autumn too long

(and what have you to say,
wind, wind, wind, -did you love somebody
and have you the petal of somewhere in your heart
pinched from dumb summer?)

o crazy daddy
of death dance cruelly for us and start

that last leaf whirling in the final brain
of air! let us as we have seen see
doom’s integration……..a wind has blown
the rain
away and the leaves away and the sky away and the
trees stand;

the trees stand. The trees
suddenly wait against the moon’s face.
-e.e. cummings

Mr. Sheep

This is my friend Mr. Sheep. I met him up north this summer, he got to spend the summer behind colonial michilimackinac, with Mrs. Sheep and there was a little lamb born in june! He enjoys nom-ing dandelions and having his head rubbed.

I did this watercolor of him for my watercolor class, it was a value assignment, so we had to reproduce a black and white picture with just a single color.

I really enjoyed watercolor, which I haven’t used much before and am looking forward to much more experimentation with it!
